The American University of Central Asia School of Economics & Business Administration has over 500 students enrolled in four undergraduate and master's programs. As an organization devoted to liberal arts, engaged scholarship and the development of the local community, AUCA School of Economics & Business Administration also offers courses and a formal academic focus in social entrepreneurship, development and BoP/frugal innovation. It is the only university in Central Asia to have a strategic focus in this domain. As a university in a country with a per capita GDP of $1,300 per year surrounded by other emerging markets with a similar economic situation, AUCA strives to become a center for regional development and innovation centered around serving BoP needs.

Gregory J Dunn is the Economics and Business Division Head (Dean) and Assistant Professor at the American University of Central Asia. He also has been a research fellow at the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe and a lecturer and thesis supervisor for graduate students in the Economic Governance and Development program at the OSCE Academy. Gregory’s research and teaching seeks to explore the role of institutions in fostering economic development. Among his questions of interest: How do institutions and organizational structure affect technology and innovation in transition and developing countries? How do institutions create path dependency in the development of various industries? How did the richer, peaceful and egalitarian countries create the environments we see today? Outside the classroom, Gregory counts blueberries, Thai food, The Little Prince, Cheburashka and telescopes as among the most incredible things in the world.
Lab Co-Leader:
Jayarethanam Pillai
Jayarethanam Pillai is the Chair of Business Administration and an Associate Professor of Economics at the American University of Central Asia (AUCA). He also dedicates is time as a Professor of Economics at the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE Academy). Jaya has published and teaches extensively in the political economy of Southeast and South Asian economic development. He researches and seeks to explore the developmental role of state in fostering economic development. His expertise explores the importance of technology development and the emergence of cluster –led economic progress in emerging economies. Outside the classroom, Jaya loves to work-out in the gym and time permitting attend cardio aerobics. He loves playing and watching soccer and an ardent fan of Liverpool and Brazil since the age of 7 years old.
